Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee abruptly halted the formation of district-level committees for voter list revision, just hours after the process began. On Thursday, she formed a 36-member committee in a meeting at Netaji Indoor Stadium, where senior leader Sandip Ranjan Bakshi initiated the district-level committee formation process. However, later that night, Banerjee ordered an immediate suspension, stating that she would personally oversee the committee formations.
The decision has put a pause on organizational restructuring at the district level. The meeting was attended by all district TMC presidents, along with the Birbhum core committee. Plans were in place to form panels comprising block presidents and branch organization heads, but the process is now stalled. The reason behind this sudden move remains undisclosed, and no official statement has been issued explaining the decision.
Sources indicate that party leaders are awaiting further instructions from the top leadership. The suspension means that, for now, no district-level committees will be formed, leaving the voter list revision process in limbo. It remains unclear when or how the restructuring will resume, as Mamata Banerjee has not yet provided a revised plan for the process.
